Being a winter month, you can expect temperatures to be fairly low and at an average of 12°c, with highs of 15° you’re probably wondering if it is worth visiting Rhodes in January – it absolutely is!

If you want to brave the beach while you’re here, it’ll most likely just be for a stroll but you may also be able to dip your toes in the sea, with a temperature of 17° it’s surprisingly warm. With so many beautiful places to choose from you could try Elli, Traganou, or Prasonisi beaches.

With January being the wettest month of the year, it is quite possible that you’ll experience some rain. For those days you’ll want something to pass the time so you could opt for an authentic cookery class or enjoy the flavours of the island through wine tasting.

Nothing beats the great outdoors though, so why not visit Rhodes Old Town – you will be taken back in time, explore cobbled streets, witness some impressive ruins and city walls, and with cafés and restaurants dotted around and plenty of history to uncover, you’ll be able to spend the whole day here.

The climate is pretty similar to January, although you’ll get an extra hour of sun per day and one less day of rain over the month. The weather can be unpredictable with winds and storms making it feel quite chilly. It’s recommended you bring your waterproofs if you’re planning on outdoor activities.

If you have younger children it is worth visiting Farma of Rhodes Petting Zoo, and not far away is the Valley of Butterflies where you can enjoy a spot of nature without the sweltering heat.

Staying outdoors you could choose one of many walking routes. For instance, Seven Springs (known locally as Epta Piges) is a beautiful destination with lavish greenery. Follow the paths to discover the flowing springs and if you’re adventurous enough you can take the narrow dark tunnel route. You’ll need appropriate footwear as the water will be ankle high, giving you a challenging yet rewarding experience as you reach the lake.

With daily temperatures at 12°c and reaching highs of 15° you won’t need to pack your shorts and summer dresses just yet, but if you want a quiet break in a stunning part of the world, look no further!

As the seasons begin to change, so does the weather. There is a rise in temperature, with averages of 14°c. There may be lows of 11°, but you could experience highs of 17° which is impressive for March when you compare it to the UK.

7 hours of sun means you can fit a lot more into your day and with less chance of rain you’ll be able to spend more of it outside – let’s face it, nobody really goes on holiday to spend it all indoors!

If you’re a fan of the more modern way of life, you should visit New Town of Rhodes. Here you’ll get to stroll around the New Market, visit shops, marvel at some beautiful mansions and art deco buildings, and stop for a bite to eat at any of the restaurants. Enjoy the best of both worlds though because across from here you’ll see 3 of the 14 remaining historical windmills, the 15th century Tower of St Nicholas, as well as the harbour – this is probably the most you’ll see in terms of traditional Greek charm in New Town.

If you fancy a walk along the sand then visit Pefki Beach, though narrow compared to other beaches in Rhodes, it offers soft sand, shallow waters, and rocky cove views. You probably won’t want to swim in the sea just yet, but if you do dip your toes in, it will be around 16°.

With spring in full bloom, the temperatures increase. In the lead up to the summer months you could see highs of 20°c, which is perfect for an April getaway and with 9 hours of sun per day the beach looks a promising way to spend your time.

Visit Ladiko Beach – one of the smaller bays south of Rhodes – it has fine sand, useful facilities, and picturesque scenery of green landscape and sailing boats that you can look out at from a delightful coved beach.

As the weather picks up, you’ll no doubt want to explore the island, especially now more places open up for tourists. If you enjoy a more active lifestyle, we’d recommend a hike to the top of Mount Attavyros. This is the highest mountain in Rhodes and will give you some terrific views. The climate in April is ideal for this type of activity.

If you do prefer a more relaxing experience, then instead opt for a boat tour of the coast. The sea will be calm enough for you to gently sail over the waves and discover some hidden coves and beautiful beaches.

It may get a little busier during the Easter break, but if you get chance to witness some of the extravagant celebrations and processions on the island, you will take away some great memories.

Longer, warmer days are here from May, and you can expect 10 hours of sun per day. With little chance of rain, clear blue skies, and temperatures in their 20’s you could certainly spend a day at the beach. Take note that low temperatures of 17° could mean you’ll need to pack a jacket or jumper in case you get a chilly evening.

Head to Agathi Beach on the west coast for golden sands and clear waters. There are facilities available, along with water sports and beach restaurants. With shallow waters at 19°c, the sea will be enticing at this time of year. Haraki Village is also close by, offering plenty of things to do.

Taking advantage of the weather, we’d recommend you visit Monolithos – a village with stone-built houses and charming alleys amidst hills and olive tree groves. You can walk around the village to discover some stunning views and really make the most of the sunshine.

You should get a good deal on your accommodation in May, but bear in mind some places may be more expensive and become busier when schools take their summer half term breaks.

Rhodes has entered summer season now and the temperature will continue to rise over the next couple of months. The island will begin to liven up as more people book their holiday. With zero days of rain and 11 hours of sunshine, combined with a 21°c sea temperature, you can see why Rhodes is popular in June.

Visiting the beach will give you chance to work on your tan – Elli Beach is perfect to spend the day, with its shingle/pebble beach and calm waters. You’ll find all the usual facilities, as well as various water sports and restaurants along the beachfront. Located in the east with nearby places of interest for a full day out.

If you enjoy hiking or just walking in general, then venture to Lindos where you can climb up to the temple and marvel at the views. Alternatively, you can take a leisurely stroll around the town that consists of alleyways, shops, and cafés.

Another stunning part of the island is Rodini Park – believed to be one of the oldest parks, you’ll get a feeling of tranquillity and peace as you walk over the bridge with the flowing river underneath, take in the colours and scents of the nature that surrounds you, and as an added bonus it is free to enter. Make sure this is on your to-do list when visiting Rhodes.

Sea temperature

The temperature could reach up to 29°c during July which is ideal for sunworshippers who descend on the island. Even the low temperatures remain in the early 20’s, so you’ll only need to pack light clothing if you take your holiday this month. There will be no chance of rain, so if the heat isn’t too much then find a spot on the beach and relax the day away (you are on holiday after all!).

Although not a windy island, the breeze is more present from July to September, but as the temperatures climb, this will be a welcome break from the constant heat.

Prasonisi is without a doubt one of the most beautiful beaches in Rhodes. Consisting of two sandy coves, the long stretch means you’ll find a place to sit even during the busier months. This beach is popular with surfers so if you fancy giving it a go, this is the ideal spot. Preferring to sunbathe, you can do so whilst taking in the scenery – with crystal clear waters and idyllic landscape you’ll feel relaxed in no time.

Thanks to the sea being a comfortable 23° you shouldn’t be too concerned about finding accommodation with a heated pool, just keep in mind that wherever you stay from now will increase in price compared to the quieter months.

If you enjoy visiting historical sites, you won’t want to miss experiencing the Monastery of Tsambika – there is a bit of a climb to the top so make sure to take plenty of water and sun protection. When at the top you’ll see the small church, as well as taking in some incredible views of the beaches, sea, and greenery.

When you’re longing for a summer holiday with endless sunny days, high temperatures, and zero chance of rain, then August has got to be the month for you. You’ll get 12 hours of sun at averages of 26°c and highs of 29°, making it extremely popular with families, as well as locals wanting to hit the beach.

The UV index will be high and with the strong sun you’ll need to bring your highest factor suncream. Think about visiting the beach a little earlier before the sun is at its hottest.

If you don’t mind the crowds but rather enjoy the bustling atmosphere, we’d suggest heading to Faliraki Beach where you can embrace the long stretch of golden sand and shallow waters, along with making use of the usual facilities, beach side restaurants, and vibrant bars. Venturing away from the beach will lead you to Faliraki town – visit shops, cafés, and even cool off at the local water park.

Those of you that have travelled to Rhodes for the entertainment and nightlife should wait until after dark in Faliraki, when it really comes to life. There are a plethora of bars and nightclubs open until early hours, so partygoers really won’t want to miss this experience.

If nightlife is your thing but you fancy a more lavish affair, try Lindos instead. You’ll still get a variety of cocktails, DJ’s and dancefloors, but the more sophisticated atmosphere really does set the bar (no pun intended!).

However you choose to spend your day (and night) during your August holiday, you’ll certainly have the time, and weather to fit it all in.

The climate changes a little from the peak summer months of July and August, more so at the end of the month, but only marginally and you’ll still get some beautiful weather.

Highs of 27°c and daily temperatures of 26° means the beach is definitely on the cards. Traganou is a pebbled beach, half comprising of sun loungers and umbrellas, while the other half is left to its natural self where you can throw your towels down and enjoy a spot of sunbathing.

The sea is warm enough to swim in at 24° and if you do venture out, be sure to swim to the cave where you will enjoy crystal clear waters and marvellous scenery.

You may want a break from the beach, and not everyone takes a holiday just to lie in the sun all day – if you like a bit of adventure, we’d recommend a jeep safari. With a 4x4 guided trip you will uncover forests, olive groves, villages, and mountains which are sure to be a nature and adventure lover’s dream.

As September begins to quieten down towards the end of the month, it is the perfect time to plan your break in the sun without too many large crowds.

You could see rain during your stay as it is forecast for 5 days over the whole month – this shouldn’t jeopardise your trip though, thanks to highs of 24°c and a sea temperature of 22° you should definitely head to the beach in October.

Kallithea Beach is made up of soft sand and small pebbles, with clear waters that are still comfortable to swim in at this time of year. You’ll find sun loungers to hire so you can relax on this idyllic part of the island surrounded by palm and pine trees, blue skies, and eateries. Spending the day here is easily done and if you take a stroll around, you will discover the spa baths where you can walk through the gardens, take in the art gallery exhibits, and soak up the atmosphere of such a magical place.

You may need to bring a jacket in case the temperature drops, but overall, you should expect to enjoy the weather in shorts and a t-shirt – something unheard of for the UK climate in October!

If you like a quieter getaway, then November is the perfect time to visit Rhodes while the climate is still comfortable – just be prepared for facilities being limited as the island prepares for the onset of winter.

You’ll get highs of 19°c, with averages of 16° and lows of 14°. The sun will be present for 6 hours per day, with the possibility of rain over 8 days of the month. If you are prepared for changes in the weather and pack your suitcase to reflect this, you will still have a great holiday.

You may not want to spend too long on the beach now it is a little cooler, but if you’d like to take a stroll, you could visit Lardos Beach which offers beautiful sand, gentle waves, and hilly views. Go a bit later and witness the sunset before sampling some traditional Greek cuisine.

Why not hire a car and go beach hopping to make the most of your winter holiday and discover some of the more secluded and hidden gems of the island.

Exploring when the temperatures have decreased means you won’t get too hot while walking around the island. Places such as the Bee Museum and Ancient Kamiros are ideal for low season when there are less tourists and the sun is bearable.

Accommodation prices will have reduced dramatically now and you’ll most likely be able to book at the last minute. Bear in mind though that some hotels and complexes might not be open during the colder months and those that do may not give you access to all the facilities during this time.

Rhodes in December can be a magical time, especially if you visit during the Christmas period. The decorations and celebrations along with local traditions make for a memorable trip.

You’ll get average temperatures of 14°c, so while you won’t need your bikini this month, the climate is still favoured here compared to the UK, even as the amount of rain over the month jumps to 13 days.

The sea is still quite impressive at 18° - this is probably too cold for most, though we’re sure there will be some who won’t be able to resist a quick dip!

Visit the beach for a romantic stroll or to let the little ones burn off some energy – grab your beach shoes and walk along the part sand, part pebble, Ixia Beach.

History enthusiasts take note that if you walk far enough, you’ll reach Ancient Ialysos. This is an archaeological site where you will find temples, churches, and many more ancient ruins.

The weather can be unpredictable with chances of rain as well as sunny days and cooler evenings. Be prepared for this and Rhodes could be the best decision you make for December.
